The West African Polytechnic Students Union (WAPSU) has commended authorities of Federal Polytechnic Oko, Anambra State, for introducing computer-based-test examination system for its internal examinations.

The association also urged staff members of the institution to support the leadership of the polytechnic in its moves transform the school.

WAPSU President, Salaudeen Lukman who disclosed this at a recent press conference in Abuja, noted that the implementation of CBT in the institution has helped in the technological advancement of the school.

The union expressed "total disappointment with the staff members" who were pitched against the school's management over the introduction of computer-based test examination system.

The student's group maintained that the Federal Polytechnic's public rating has tremendously changed positively since the incumbent team led by Prof. Godwin Onu assumed office, just as it noted that efforts made to turn around the institution include the opening of a permanent site campus, extension of the capacity of the old site campus, partnerships with local and international agencies and governments to add value to polytechnic education, introduction of new courses and massive infrastructural turn around in the school, with a high level of respect and concern for student's welfare.

So, "We express dissatisfaction at the condemnation and lamentation of this innovation in Federal Polytechnic Oko by some academic staff. This innovation does not only encourage student to be more focused, it deviates their mind from unscrupulous ways of passing examination. We thus advise that all those who are not comfortable with innovation should voluntarily resign their appointments to allow peace stability on campus and to give room for more progressive innovations.

He therefore urged that the management of the institution to boost the CBT facilities to save time and reduce examination days.

Speaking further, the WAPSU president lauded the efforts of Yaba College of Technology, led by Dr. Kudirat Margaret Ladipo, in providing infrastructural facilities, improving student's welfare, and putting in place of a well-coordinated academic calendar, which has greatly boosted teaching and learning in the college.

He, however, pointed out that, "We are not ignorant of the artificial problems created by some members of the college community that has prompted an investigation/panel visit, but we are highly disappointed that such is emanating from some top staff members of the college.
