Lecturers of the Wesley University of Science and Technology, Ondo State, have yet to receive their 18 months outstanding salaries, three months after calling off their industrial action.

The authorities of the university last July closed down the school following a protest by the lecturers, who were demanding the payment of their outstanding salaries. But findings by our correspondent on Monday revealed that the authorities of the school had yet to clear the salary arrears.

A source told our correspondent that the authorities only paid the workers two out of the 20 months salaries owed them. The source, who confirmed this, however, noted that the school management was meeting regularly with the lecturers with a view to settling the outstanding salaries. The source, a member of staff of the institution, explained that the workers suspended the industrial action last October following interventions from stakeholders. He said,

“The crisis has not ended until the payment of the remaining salaries.

Two months allowance out of over 20 months is nothing. We may likely resume strike if the management does not clear the debt as soon as possible.” All efforts to reach out to the Public Relations Officer of the institution, Mr. Samuel Akindele, to speak on the matter failed, as he did not pick his calls as of 8pm on Monday.
