The VC said this at a special prayer session in his office on Monday, 4 January, 2016 for a wonderful new year in a statement by the University's Director of Public Communication, Mr. Olatunji Oladejo.
Work resumed on Monday in the University after the New Year celebration.
Professor Olayinka expressed his sincere appreciation to staff and students of the University for their Exceptional Commitments and contributions which made 2015 to end on a cheerful note for the institution.
The VC prayed for divine favour, long life, sound health, success and peace of God for all members of the community, in particular and Nigeria, in general.
The prayer session had in attendance the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Administration), Prof. Ambrose EmilOlorun Aiyelari; Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic), Prof. Gbemisola Oke; immediate past Bursar, Mr. Ibrahim Olaniyi Aponmade; Dean, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Prof. Mathew Oyeyemi; former Dean of Students, Prof. Eyiwumi Falaye, Director of the University's Centre for Social Orientation, Dr. Adams Onuka, among others.
Meanwhile, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Abel Olayinka has also promised regular payment of staff salary.
The VC gave the assurance during the Thanksgiving Service and Reception for the new Bursar, Mr. Michael Akinade Alatise, recently.
He said that the total salary of all staff of the institution stood at N962million monthly.
The VC apologised for the late payment of December salary which he attributed to the late arrival of the monthly fund from the Federal Government.
Prof. Olayinka congratulated the new Bursar, saying it was a well-deserved appointment.
"I congratulate you but I want to state that the heroes of this event were those that contested and lost the post to you. This is because they have accepted defeat and started harmoniously with you. They are the heroes of this event", he said.
Also, the Chairman of Academic Staff Union (ASUU), UI Branch, Prof. Segun Ajiboye said the immediate past VC of the institution, Prof Isaac Adewole recorded a free strike action.
"Although, there were pockets of strike action within the period, these strike actions were from the national body of ASUU and we have to obey them because we are one.The reason for this was that the former VC made workers' welfare his priority. Today, I am not representing only ASUU but the three other unions within the campus. Today, University of Ibadan is witnessing a new dawn with the appointment of Mr. Alatise.
According to him, "we want the new Bursar to ensure that workers get their payments in good time."
Responding, the new Bursar, Mr. Michael Alatise assured the staff of the institution that their welfare would top his agenda.
He further said that the institution was experiencing cash crunch due to the economic situation in the country.
“It is unfortunate that what was approved for the institution in the 2015 budget is what the Federal Government approved for 2016 again. Although, the first quarter of the year may be a little hard but I can assure you that we will all work it out so that the institution can grow. If you see me frank my face, that is how God created me. We will have issues definitely, but I am open to dialogue", he said.
Dignitaries from the academia, banking, finance, insurance and other stakeholders in higher education attended the event.
