The Edo State Government has expelled eight secondary school students and suspended over twenty others for their alleged involvement in cult related activities in various schools in the state.
The Commissioner for Education in the state, Mr Gideon Obhakhan, who made the disclosure in Benin, stated that the suspended students are currently being investigated by the police.
Obhakhan pointed out that if those under investigation by the police are found to be culpable, they would be expelled from their various schools.
He explained that the ongoing clampdown on cultism and violence by the state government was aimed at checking the wave of secret activities now spreading across secondary and primary schools in the state.
The commissioner added that the state government was working in collaboration with the anti-cultism unit of the Edo State Police Command to flush out the menace of cult activities amongst pupils and students in all the primary and secondary schools across the state.
