CVM Set To Hold Oath-Taking Ceremony For MOUAU Veterinary Graduates


The Veterinary Council of Nigeria members led by Prof. Elsa Abdulbli, during a courtesy visit preceding the oath-taking thanked the Vice-Chancellor Prof. Francis Ogbonnaya Otunta for a beefy welcome and said the visit of the Council to the Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike is to fulfill an annual responsibility of vetting the examination conduct of the department of Veterinary medicine in the University, under which the veterinary clink, examination marking scheme, quality of questions for both practical and oral examination are assessed.

….OATH TAKING
Vice- Chancellor of Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike, Prof. Francis Ogbonnaya Otunta has made an offer of automatic employment to the overall best student, set 2014/2015 in the College of Veterinary Medicine, Dr. Mrs Ukameze Jessica lfuananya (Nee IIoh).
Prof. Otunta who made the offer during the third Oath-taking ceremony/admission of the 2014/2015 veterinary graduates into the profession as Veterinary Surgeons held at the Pius Anyim Auditorium, encouraged the graduates to practice their profession in line with the principles of veterinary ethics contained in the oath which requires that they use their scientific knowledge and skills for the benefit of society.
In an address of welcome, the Dean, College of Veterinary Medicine, Prof. Maxwell Ezeja who thanked the veterinary council of Nigeria for honouring their initiation for accreditations and examination monitoring, pleaded with the council to release the result of the last accreditation visit to August 201 5 which according to him is making the University and college management uncomfortable.
The president of the Veterinary Council of Nigeria, Prof. Garba Sharubutu in a remark congratulated the graduands, noting that the veterinary oath taking is the only authority to practice veterinary medicine legitimately within and outside the shores of Nigeria represented by the Registrar of the Council. Dr. A.M. Avong who also administered the oath, Prof. Sharubutu reminded the veterinary doctors that they are graduating at very challenging time when the economy is dwindling and government is taking about diversification of the economy into agriculture as animal agriculture is a corn stone to turn the economy around.
Responding on behalf of the graduates the overall best student in the college Dr. Mrs. Ukwueze lfunanya Jessica (Nee lloh) thanked the University administration for making the institution a citadel of excellence for breeding successful ambassadors.
In a vote of thanks. Head of Department, Pharmacology, Animal Health and Production Dr.Emmanual Onyekweodiri appreciated Prof. Otunta for being the first Vice-Chancellor to employ a best graduating student in the history of the institution.
Highlights of the ceremony was the presentation of the Late Chief S. Ogwuegbu Ndiebge, inyi one of Amainyi Memorial Prize to the best graduating student in veterinary clinics and the Mazi and Madam Ukairo Kalu memorial prize for the best Graduating student in veterinary public Health and Preventive Medicine.
