The authorities of the Redeemer’s University, a private institution located at Ede in Osun State have installed an elder statesman and former Chief of Army Staff, General Theophilus Yakubu Danjuma (rtd) as Chancellor.
It was at the university’s eighth convocation ceremony, where the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Debo Adeyewa, described the elder statesman as a lover of education and who had contributed immensely to its growth.
Worried by the present economic recession in the country, he called on President Muhammadu Buhari to engage seasoned economic experts to reduce the effects of the current economic meltdown in the nation.
According to the vicechancellor, if economic experts are engaged to find lasting solutions to the economic problems, it would go a long way in alleviating the economic messy situation the country is finding itself.
In view of this, he, however, suggested that the government should be honest in making use of the seasoned economic advisers to do the job without bias or favouritism so as to get the expected results at the end of the day.
“These season economic experts could come from any circle as it is not necessary to use a person who we know is not capable to do the job from a political party all in the guise to favour him or her. The people to be saddled with such job should probably not come from any political party if better results are to be achieved.
Adeyewa noted that it is only when a round peg is put in a round hole that the country would be transformed for better in all sector, saying: “The solutions to Nigeria economic downturn does not lie with the International Monetary Fund (IMF), World Bank or any international organisations, but with every individual to contribute towards embracing home made goods.”
Giving the breakdown of the graduating students, the vice-chancellor, said a total of 619 graduating students would receive their scrolls, out of whom 25 graduated with First Class Honours, representing four per cent of the graduating students, while 207 obtained Second Class Upper Division representing 33.4 per cent.
According to him, 290 students graduated with Second Class Lower Division (46.8 per cent); 97 students, representing 15.7 per cent obtained Third Class, while 84 students, representing 13.6 per cent came out with Pass degrees.
