FuGasau Appoints Prof. Y.A. Zakari As 1st Deputy Vice Chancellor

The Governing Council of Federal University Gusau has approved the appointment of Prof. Yahaya A. Zakari as Deputy Vice Chancellor for an initial period of two years.
The Council at its meeting held between 5th and 9th December, 2016 also approved the elevation of Dr. Kabiru Abdullahi to the rank of Professor of Parasitology.
Born in Gusau, the capital of Zamfara state in 1970, Prof. Zakari attended Nizamiyya Primary School Gusau (1975-81), CAAS Sokoto (1981-86).
He obtained BSc (1993), MSc (1999), MBA (2002) all at Usmanu Danfodiyo University Sokoto (UDUS) and PhD Economics in 2007 (Shiga University, Japan).
He began his carrier as an Assistant Lecturer in the Department of Business Studies, Federal Polytechnic Kaura Namoda in 1995, before taking appointment as a Graduate Assistant at Usmanu Danfodiyo University Sokoto in 1996.
He rose through the ranks to become a Professor of Economics in 2012 and joined the services of Federal University Gusau in 2015.
Prof. Zakari has held many academic and administrative positions and has supervised many undergraduate and postgraduate students, mentored many younger colleagues and published many articles in reputable journals both at home and abroad.
He is also a member of Nigerian Economic Society (NES) and Japan Society for International Development (JASID).
Until his appointment, he is the Head of Department of Economics and Director, Division of General Studies.
