Speaking during an interactive session with the crew from the 'Port-Harcourt Times Magazine', Professor Ndimele said that the nomenclature 'Education' is a barrier and that if it is not reflected in the name of the university, the latter would not only compete favourably with other universities but would also be the best in the next five years.
He appealed to the State Governor and Visitor to the university, Barrister Bye Ezenwo Wike to grant the request to enable the university sustain itself with revenue so generated and address the problem of resource inadequacies.
He frowned at the inadequate admission quota for Rivers Children in other universities and remarked that IAUE would cater for the large number of Students deprived admission into these universities if the appeal is considered.
The Vice-Chancellor stressed that the university can still achieve the core mandate of Education under the Faculty of Education and reiterated his commitment and determination to charting a genuine path of progress by improving the quality of Staff, Facilities and Research in the university.
He admonished Students of the university to take their studies seriously as they would be required to take a computer based test first week after lectures resumes on Monday February 13, 2017 and another test from the third week of lectures. He added that the results of the test which will be 10 marks each would be sent to his office same day to prevent malpractice.
Professor Ndimele enjoined Lecturers to be creative and innovative and to submit their results a month after examinations or face the risk of being sanctioned. He also encouraged Heads of Department, Directors and Hall Wardens to reach out to companies and other corporate individuals as alternative sources of revenue generation for their Departments and Units.
He informed the ' Port-Harcourt Times Magazine' about the renovation work ongoing at the Hostels noting that the Students would on their return move in with branded bedsheets, pillow cases, Buckets, Curtains, Window blinds etc made by the Home Economics and Hotel Management Department of the university.
The Vice-Chancellor told them that the university is establishing Paint, Bread, and Water Factories as well as embarking on commercial Agriculture for food sustainability in the State and for export.
