The Kano State Government has approved the construction of an additional hostel at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Karaye.

Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje announced this today when the Director-General, Brigadier General Sulaiman Kazaure, paid him a courtesy visit at the Government House, Kano.

He said he had since directed the Ministry of Works to produce a design for the new hostel.

Dr. Ganduje also announced the state government's decision to take over the payment of Corps members' local allowances from Local Government Councils.

The Governor explained that the present economic challenges in the country accounts for the inability of the local councils to cope with the payment.

He averred that Kano remained one of the safest states in the north, adding that his administration was working with security agencies to make the state even safer for Corps members.

He reminisced on his service year experience and his subsequent relationship with the NYSC Scheme as a public servant, and went on to canvass continued support for the scheme.

Earlier, the Director-General, Brigadier General Sulaiman Kazaure, thanked the Governor for his support for the Scheme.

He particularly expressed appreciation of the on-going general renovation of the Permanent Orientation Camp at Karaye by the state government.

Kazaure had also used the occasion to request construction of additional hostels at the NYSC camp to take care of the continuing rise in Corps population just as he also urged it to help towards ensuring regular payment of local allowance to Corps members.
