Ignatius Ajuru University to Introduce Chinese Language Study

The Ignatius Ajuru University of Education (IAUE) has planned to introduced Chinese Language Study as part of efforts to move with the current trends and to place the university on global visibility.

The Vice-Chancellor of the university Professor Ozo-Mekuri Ndimele disclosed this during his forum with Staff and Students in fulfillment of the promise made during his inauguration as the second Vice-Chancellor of the university.

He stated that the university is collaborating with a Chinese firm for IAUE students to study the language noting that IAUE cannot be left out especially since the world is embracing the Chinese language as a means of communication.

Under the arrangement which would be handled by Professor Chukwueggu, the Chinese experts would be housed at the new faculty of Education building. Although the initiative is a landmark achievement, the Vice-Chancellor expressed worry with the security challenges voiced by the experts who are afraid of their safety given the rate of kidnapping cases in the country and hoped that the problem would eventually not be an issue for the commencement of the programme.

Also the university has entered into am agreement with the Southern University in the United States of America where students would start the programme in Nigeria for a period of two years and spend another two years in Uganda or Cameron before proceeding to the United States of America for their Masters degree in one year before coming back to Nigeria for Youth service.

The Vice-Chancellor also talked about the School of Maritime studies on partnership basis and Centre for Paramedics for practical Nursing Education and Community Health Education.

He explained that the University would be a recipient of Centre of Excellence Award for South South Universities soon from a reputable Foundation.

Professor Ndimele hinted that approvals had been given for more befitting classroom complex for both the undergraduates and postgraduate students and encouraged the students to persevere. In addition, all results would be automated in such a way that students can sit in the comfort of their homes to access their results online after every examination.

He further informed that plans were on to commence part-time weekend programmes mostly in Business studies at the Ndele campus and that payment had been made to the National Universities Commissione (NUC) for verification of the programmes to begin soon.

The forum provided opportunities for staff and students to interact with the Vice-Chancellor, make comments, contributions and also ask questions.
