IAUE Approves March 10, 2018 as Convocation Day- [Undergraduates & Postgraduates]

Pioneer Postgraduate Students of Ignatius Ajuru University of Education may have cause to be grateful for choosing the university for their postgraduate studies.

This is because Senate has approved Saturday March 10, 2018 as convocation day for postgraduate Diploma Masters students in addition to the undergraduate students.

The approval which was given during an emergency meeting which held on Wednesday November 15, 2017 is in keeping with the promise made by the Vice-Chancellor Professor Ozo-Mekuri Ndimele that the university would employ all necessary means to ensure that the pioneer postgraduate students graduate within the stipulated time frame of one year, an achievement which is almost impossible in most Nigerian universities across the county.

He advised all lecturers to ensure the realization of the date by teaching the students and mandated the Deans of Faculty to go round the classes to monitor those teaching and to report those who are not on their duty post and failing in their teaching jobs.

Similarly, Senate has also approved the extension of sale of admission forms for the postgraduate programmes to Friday December 15, 2017.

The university is commencing the seventeen new undergraduate B.A, BSc, BSc.Ed, B.Ed programmes in this semester. Recall that a twenty three man team made up of seventeen professors from different universities across the country and six National Universities Commission ( NUC) representatives on October 30, 2017 visited the university on resource verification to verify these programmes.

The Vice-Chancellor further disclosed that in response to demands by parents, the Metropolitan Schools at the St John's campus would put in place boarding facilities for the secondary school to commence boarding school from next year 2018.

Worried by the number of Members of Senate that are not computer literate, Professor Ndimele has challenged the Information and Communications Technology (ICT) centre Director, Professor Jane Onwugbuta-Enyi to ensure that all Senate Members are trained to become computer literate.

Although there were suggestions on structuring the educational process to demand the use of literacy skills by lecturers, others opined that the university should assist by providing laptops for the lecturers to pay within a one year time frame for them to develop their computer skills privately.

The Vice-Chancellor encouraged the lecturers to embark on self development to be at par with the new information age.
